Baptism for Children

We welcome and rejoice in the baptism of your child at St. Bernard Catholic Church! Baptism is a precious gift given to us by God through the church. It is natural that parents would wish to pass this gift on to their children as soon as possible. At St. Bernard Parish, our requirements for infant baptism are as follows:

1. The family of the infant to be baptized is registered as a member of St. Bernard Parish. Registration forms are available in the back of the church you may also register in the parish office during the week. If you are registered at another parish, permission from your parish is necessary to celebrate the baptism at St. Bernard.

2. If you are a new parent or it has been five years since you’ve attended a baptism class, you will need to participate in a preparation process.

If the two steps above are completed, the next steps to take towards Baptism are the following:

3. Contact the parish office, Monday — Friday during business hours, to schedule the baptism. Baptisms are scheduled after the completion of the baptism process. We request you contact us after you have selected your child’s Godparents and before you make flight arrangements for traveling family members.

4. Choose Godparents who have received the sacrament of Confirmation, are practicing Catholics and at least 16 years of age.

*Note: For baptism of older children, contact the office for special arrangements.

For additional information or any questions, please contact Fr. Michael.
